Close
The covert world of Close Protection. Operatives work in what is known as “The Circuit,” a closed but well-established network primarily made up of former Special Forces soldiers. You can count on one hand the number of women in this line of work. Our story is inspired by the true-life story of one woman’s life as a bodyguard and undercover surveillance operative. This woman has a complex personality; the sacrifices she has made to get to this position in her career have shaped who she is. The events that unfold in our story focus on a key time in her emotional and professional life, when she took on a client whose life came under threat and whom she had to break the law to protect. The client, a young heiress, with a very different outlook on the world, formed an unusual relationship with her bodyguard.
CLOSE is a new take on the classic buddy movie. The characters drive the action. The audience is presented with a woman rooted in reality, but with an extraordinary skillset, working a job under astonishing circumstances. The bodyguard’s role is to keep her distance in order to best protect her client, yet this client gets under her skin, and the roles reverse. Under threat and running for their lives these two very different women have to work together to survive against all odds. This is an on the run movie, an action thriller, with characters we can really root for.
Influences: Thelma and Louise, True Detective, North By North West, The Departed. And in terms of giving the audience a capable action heroine – Bourne, Run Lola Run, Lucy.
“The neatly dressed woman in the background you assume is a secretary or mistress is, in fact, far more likely to have a black belt in karate and be scanning the crowds for potential assassins.”
